About Us

Overview

When I first walked onto campus nine years ago, I knew there was something different about Kildonan. The way the faculty and staff interacted with the students, the smiles on the students’ faces, and the amazing things I saw during tutoring sessions and in the classrooms made it clear that this was an entirely different place to learn. It is now nine years later, I am honored and excited to lead Kildonan in my new role as Headmaster. I am committed to the mission of the school and look forward to the opportunity to uphold Kildonan's outstanding program and reputation while continuing to help it grow.

Since 1969, when Kurt Goldman and Diana Hanbury King founded the school, Kildonan has been a leader in the world of educating students with dyslexia. By providing daily one-to-one Orton-Gillingham tutoring and small, multi-sensory classroom instruction to boys and girls grades 2-12, we can provide the educational opportunities that have been missing in so many students’ lives. While the main focus has always been to provide the best possible academic instruction, we will continue to balance academics with programs like community service and comprehensive athletic offerings to foster self esteem.

For the 2008-2009 year, there are a lot of exciting changes. We recently completed a new $3.8 million Athletic Center, which will open this fall, and we are opening school with a newly designed Assistive Technology Lab and SMART Boards™ in several of our classrooms. While our commitment to sound educational principles does not waver, each year we look to make improvements to our program so that we may provide the best possible environment for our students.

So come see us - we are only 90 miles from New York City: a short trip, but a world away from the traditional learning environment. Thanks for taking the time to learn more about our school, and we look forward to seeing you on campus soon.
